Protecting Your Home in Freezing Temperatures

Northwest Indiana can be pretty unpredictable when it comes to weather. Freezing temperatures are something to be aware of and to be prepared for. Here’s a few helpful tips to protect your home in freezing temperatures.

Disconnect any hoses you might have outside and ensure that the water to your outdoor faucets is off.

Double check the exterior of your home for holes and if you find some close them up with foam insulation. Insulate, insulate, insulate. Ensure that your home is well insulated everywhere and even insulate the pipes themselves if you need to.

If you have any faucets that are up against a wall that may not be well insulated, leave the faucet on to drip.

Ensure that you have a clear path to any valves to turn off water in event of an emergency. It also can’t hurt to take it a step further and make sure you know where all the off valves are.

Keep your garage door shut and gutters clean.

Keep extra batteries for your thermostat in the house.

If freezing temperatures occur and you’re worried about any damage to your house, give us a call. We would be more than happy to come check it out for you to ensure your safety.
